Born in Hunan; raised in Xiamen, China.

MA in Linguistics & Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware.

PhD in Linguistics & Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego, dissertation titled “Phonetics of Period Doubling”.

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta and the director of Alberta Phonetics Lab (APhL). I’m also affiliated with the Sound Studies Institute (SSI) and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI). Before joining UAlberta, I was a Postdoctoral researcher at the Acoustics Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) in Vienna in 2023-2025.
